LOW BACKACHE • It is painful condition of lower back along the posterior beltline with pain concentrated on the buttocks and posterior thigh muscles. • Pain occurs as the result of the mechanical stress and faulty posture. • It normally affects men and women of age 25-45 years. • Travelling o two wheeler or by public transport or a long time results in spasm of muscles. SYMPTOMS: • Decreased range of motion or stiffness in neck. • Knot or tight spot in back muscle. • Loss of balance or coordination. • Loss of bowel or bladder control. • Muscle weakness. • Numbness or tingling in limbs, most often on both sides of the body RISK FATORS: • Central obesity • Stress • Smoking • Regular use of two wheelers • Public transport on rough road • Lack of rest IMAGING: X-ray, CT Scan, MRI Scan MANAGEMENT: • In case of acute pain, bed rest is advised for 2-8 days with midline support to spine. • A thin mattress on a hard board gives good support to spine. A soft or uneven mattress can cause the pain to worsen. • Steam, fomentation, IRR , SWD are helpful. • Gentle thearapeutic massage • Simpe leg exercises, spinal exercises, yoga postures depending upon disc prolapsed should be done with consultation • Acupuncture • Maintain Good Posture • Quit Smoking • Use Relaxation Techniques • Have a regular spinal check ups • Wear good shoes • Use a comfortable chair • Follow a healthy diet
